One of most important principles that changed my perspective and encouraged me to look for creativity and sharing on public ..
I love the overall concept and goal of “ Show your work “ book : Ways to get yourself noted .. Simply explained into 10 points :
You don’t have to be a Genius
Be part of a whole scene of people who are : Supporting , looking at , copying , stealing and contributing ideas.
Be an amateur : be willing to try anything , don’t be afraid making mistakes and share the results.
Find your voice : Talk and share things you love.
Remember : You are going to die . Don’t wait for things to happen , make them happen . If people think I am an IDIOT - I DON’T CARE.
Think Process , not the product
Share day-to-day process .. what will form a unique bond with the audience.
Become a documentarian of what you do .. start work journal / put thoughts on Notebook / have a scrapbook or photos.
Share something small everyday
Send out a daily dispatch, even 30 minutes a day and meet the amazing outcome.
Don’t share everything — It’s not a diary.
Maintain flow with small steps While working on stock in the background.
Owning online space : is the best investment for time ( That’s what I am doing here ) .. fill it with stuff you care about.
Open up your cabinet of curiosities
Collect before create, and have the courage to keep liking what you like- this makes you unique.
Always credit other people’s work you share .
Tell good story
Become a better storyteller - work doesn’t speak for itself .
Structure is everything - 1. Initial problem 2. Work to solve it 3. Solution …….. Learn and practice.
Your Bio : 2 sentences , short and sweet … We are always speaking about ourselves
Teach what You know
Share the Trade-secrets : Teaching doesn’t mean Instant competition . Learn something - Turn around - Teach to others .
Don’t turn into a human spam
Shut up and listen: People tells things, when you listen. Be an OPEN NUDE.
We want HEARTS , not EYEBALLS: Be more interesting By being : curious , attentive , interested , good at things and Give credit then get out of the way.
The Vampire test: What/Who excites you , Go do it. What/who drains you , stop doing it .
Identify Fellow knuckle-ballers : Real peers whore share your obsessions. paying attention and connect with others
Meet up face to face.
Learn to take a punch
Let them take their best shot : More work out in the world = More criticism you face. Relax , Breath and Accept the outcome. Strengthen your neck and roll with punches . Protect your vulnerable areas ( Keep hidden ). Keep balance , and care about the right people thinking .
Sell out
We have to be funded : Don’t be afraid to charge for the work.
Make more work for yourself : Do good work and take advantage of opportunities. Try new things.
Pay it forward: Be as generous as you can & Selfish enough to get your work DONE.
Stick around
Don’t quit the show : To get what you are after , Just stick around long enough.
Smoke-Chain : Whether you just WIN big Or LOST big , Always face the question ::: What’s NEXT ? Work is a chain reaction , each subject leads to the next.
Go away , so you can come back. Take Sabbatical (walk completely away from work). Disconnect from anything electronic .
START OVER.BEGIN AGAIN : When finish something , look immediately for another to learn . Did I ate learning it out in the open. Document your progress . Share with others . SHOW YOUR WORK.Thanks Austinkleon for the amazing book.
